Abundance in Your Kitchen

Have you ever felt like something’s missing? Ever felt incomplete? Felt like you just wanted more from life?

Well. I truly believe in setting my goals high and pursuing big dreams.

Yet, a step which I think should be considered is recognizing and appreciating what is in the present moment.

So the question I will discuss in this post is…

How can we experience abundance and feel gratitude for what is already in our life?

What made me think about this topic was – believe it or not – my fridge.

I had just gotten home from shopping & filled up the fridge with groceries I had bought.

Looking at the almost stuffed fridge made me stop and pause. A feeling of gratitude came over me. I felt thankful for all the things in my fridge and all the other material goods in my life.

My Fridge

I thought back to the time when I spent almost 3 months in Ghana where in both the homes I lived in, there was no fridge at all! There was also barely ever any food supply in the house. We’d run out of gas for the gas cooker every few weeks and since we didn’t have a car it was such a hassle to get the gas cylinder filled again. So often we wouldn’t even be able to cook food in our own home & would have to go with take away meals out of plastic bags.

Coming back to my fridge today in 2019 in Switzerland.

Mindfulness practice is part of my day-to-day life. It helps me shift my attention towards what is present. Away from a victim mode towards being the hero and solution finder in my own life. It also helps me see possibilities and resources rather than flaws and errors.

In my morning meditation I practice gratitude on a daily basis. But in my opinion gratitude isn’t something that should only be practiced on a meditation cushion. It’s a quality I can invite into my daily life.

I can experience gratitude in my kitchen!

Every meal I prepare and every bite I take is an invitation to appreciate the abundance that is in my life at the present moment.

What I realized on my mindfulness journey so far is also that being grateful for what I have does not exclude wanting more and going after my dreams. By practicing gratitude for what is already in my life I am signaling to myself & my surrounding that I am taken care of and safe. These feelings support me in moving forward in direction of my goals and what I -coming from a spiritual point of view- consider my purpose.

  1. Thanks for sharing your thought on this blogpost. I. totally agree with you. Part of our voice is our consumption choices we make on a daily basis. Using our voice for the change we want to see in this world is our duty in this day and age.

  2. Love this post 🤗
So often we purchase and consume without thinking about where it came from and how it got onto the shelf.
By enjoying and being grateful the small things in life we can also become more mindfull about the things we purchase.
