This quinoa granola with nuts is exactly how I like it: crunchy, naturally sweet, with a bite here and there and a fine nutty taste. This sugar-free and naturally vegan granola is perfect for a good start to the day.
Quinoa granola with nuts or whatever your tastebuds desire
Checking the back labels of granola, I did realize that most of them contain loads of sugar or contain ingredients I am not that fond of. Two perfect reasons to make your own granola. This one even contains healthy quinoa. It is packed with goodies, for example with protein and iron. Additionally, it bakes up into little crunchy bites that cluster with the oats in the most delicious way.
The recipe is easy to follow and can be adapted to your taste preferences. You can, for example, use almonds and hazel nuts or pecan nuts or walnuts. All will give their specific nutty flavor to your quinoa granola. I suggest to start simple and change and add when doing your next batch. You might want to go a bit fruitier with raisins, dried berries or any other dried fruit. This granola offers endless options – just adjust to suit your taste.
The quinoa granola with nuts is the perfect partner for a crunchy, special breakfast treat or for a desert with a special twist. Quinoa Granola with Nuts
Ingredients
- 150 g quinoa
- 150 g rolled oats
- 120 g nuts, roughly chopped (I used almonds and hazelnuts)
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 100 ml agave or maple syrup
- 50 g liquid coconut oil (alternatively I use canola oil)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 140 ºC on fan heating.
- Combine all ingredients and stir together in a bowl.
- Spread quinoa on a baking pan that’s laid out with baking paper.
- Bake for about 60 minutes. Take out of the oven and let it cool while it’s still on the baking pan.
- Break the quinoa granola into junks. Optionally add dried raisins or roughly chopped other dried fruit. Fill into a jar or eat right away. Enjoy 🙂
Notes
Yes just replace the nuts with seeds like pumpkin or sunflower seeds or leave out and replace with more rolled oats.
Many store-bought granolas and also granola recipes online list honey as an ingredient. Honey comes from bees which makes it non vegan.
If you want to veganize a granola recipe that asks for honey simply replace the honey with a plant based naturally liquid sweetener like agave or maple syrup. Rice syrup or coconut sugar nectar is an other alternative.
